About

C.H.O.I.R. Stars for the Creative and Performing Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing teens and young adults that have chronic health conditions with unique artistic experiences. Most importantly, we encourage personal growth and development, and want the creative process to be its own reward. The campers that come to C.H.O.I.R. Stars are encouraged to find and pursue their interests and passions through programs in the creative and performing arts. C.H.O.I.R. stands for “Camp for Hematology, Oncology, Immunology, and Rheumatology”, and with that we also set out to provide awareness for the medical conditions of our campers and their family members are living with.

We are currently governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, headed by the President and Founder Sami Jankins and Vice Chair Shelly Mattson. The board consists of individuals  who are passionate about the arts, as well as those who have an understanding of what it’s like to live with a C.H.O.I.R. disorder.

Our staff consists of volunteers selected and approved by the Board of Directors. Teachers are experts in their fields as well as equipped to relate to teens with C.H.O.I.R. disorders. All staff members are personally interviewed by the board president, as well as submitted to standard background checks. The goal is for our staff to provide a safe, fun and inspiring experience to our campers. In addition to qualified teachers, we also have medical professionals on hand to deal with any health related issues that may arise.
