C.H.O.I.R. Stars for the Creative and Performing Arts® is a non-profit organization committed to providing hope and inspiration through the creative and performing arts to teens and young adults with a variety of health conditions. C.H.O.I.R. stands for “Camp for Hematology, Oncology, Immunology, and Rheumatology”. While we hold weekend workshop camps throughout the year for teens and young adults with chronic health conditions and their siblings, we also offer additional programming such as our multiple free family arts outings a year. In addition, we provide arts outreach to youth in hospitals, and provide awareness for the health conditions our C.H.O.I.R. families are facing.
We believe each individual facing a chronic health condition, along with their families, are “stars” in their own right. It is our hope that we can provide a source of strength and encouragement through the arts, and that they can continue to shine through the programs we offer as they have throughout their lives.
Recent News
We would like to thank the Marcus Center for partnering with us on the “Ain’t Got No Bongos” fundraiser. We raised a total of 20 bongos for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. We would also like to thank the cast of Hair for visiting kids at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. They helped us hand out ukuleles, and sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Good Morning Starshine”. Opportunities to Get Involved
We are currently looking for individuals to join our board. We are also offering internship positions. The board positions are a one year minimum commitment, and the internship positions run over a semester. Experience in art, dance, music, theatre, or writing is preferred. Individuals dealing with a chronic health condition are encouraged to apply.
We are also offering volunteer opportunities to teach individual sessions in art, dance, music, theatre and creative writing. Teachers must provide documentation of in depth knowledge and experience in the arts. Hotel, transportation, and meal costs for volunteers will be covered by the organization.
